Home Letter 4/22

Dear Families,

Welcome back! I hope that you all had a lovely break! We did some sharing this morning and students had a lot to say! Here were some hot topics: moving, video games, traveling, pet-sitting, a new baby in the family, Aspire, babysitting, dirt biking, movies, and more!

At morning meeting we briefly discussed the fact that some people had died in various ways that students knew about during the week. I reassured them again that they’re safe here at Academy School and I asked them to share their thoughts, questions and feelings about the news with their families, not each other.

Well, we have eight weeks to go and so much to do! With two weeks remaining in the April reading challenge, I think we could win this one! Please remind and encourage your son or daughter to be reading at home every night!

I’m looking forward to another great week together!

- Emily

Family Letter 3/18/13

Dear Families,
Hello and Happy Spring (almost!)! Can you tell how excited I am for the return of more daylight and the color green?! Can’t wait to see what this storm has in store for Tuesday!
Today I am proud to report that we have read a total of 2483 minutes! Last week we read 971 minutes. That’s more than our first week and our second week! We’re in third place, only 2403 minutes behind Ms. Walior’s class. I am confident that between weekend reading, Wegivebooks.com reading, and sheer determination, our class could pull ahead!
FYI, I will be at a Grade Level Meeting with the other third grade teachers in our district on Tuesday this week. There will be a substitute teacher. The class and I will be discussing strategies to make the day awesome. Please have this conversation at home, too. J

* IMPORTANT * Please check out the conference schedule on the back of this letter. Thank you for sending in those slips! If you don’t see your name, please call or email (or send the paper back!) with a time that would work well for you and your child.

Reminders:
·      HALF DAY on Friday (3/22/13)
·      NO SCHOOL on Monday (3/25/13)
·      I expect to see students with their parent(s) at conferences!
·      I expect students to bring their reading logs and personal reading books neatly stowed in their plastic book holders EVERY DAY. Please, please help us make this happen!
·      Homework is now due on Mondays (to accommodate weekend reading).

Looking forward to another great week!

Homer Letter 1/15/13

Dear Families,

I hope that this finds you well! I was out sick yesterday and was dismayed to discover that the class had a challenging day with the guest teacher. As a community we discussed what went well and what needs to happen differently next time. I do hope that next time will be better.

Here are a few quick reminders:
-      * Report cards will go home on Friday.  Over the weekend please take some time to read the report card with your child and then sign the slip to let me know that you’ve done so.
-      *  No school next Monday or Tuesday (Jan. 21, 22)

I am looking forward to a great week (possibly even a marble celebration on Friday!); AND maybe we’ll even get some snow!

Best,
Emily
